Environmental Performance Efficiency Card

An Environmental Performance Efficiency Card is a card that is affixed to products to demonstrate their efficiency and compliance with the requirements, rules, guidelines and instructions required for a product or service, which must be available to achieve the purposes of use, be appropriate to the prevailing conditions,  protect the health and safety of the consumer and preserve the environment according to the form specified in the standard specification and technical regulations.

License to use the Environmental Performance Efficiency Card

The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) grants a license to use the Environmental Performance Efficiency Card for Paints and Varnishes for suppliers when the following conditions are met:

• The product must have a conformity certificate from an accepted body.
• The supplier submits an independent request for each model of products for which a license is required to use the Environmental Performance Efficiency Card.
• Filling out the custom forms and ensuring that the Authority is provided with any additional documents that are requested according to the technical requirements.
• Compliance with the terms of fixing the card on the products in the correct way specified in the relevant technical regulations and standard specifications.
• Paying the fees and costs involved in authorizing the supplier to use the card.

How to grant a license to use the Environmental Performance Efficiency Card

• The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) verifies that the product has obtained a conformity certificate, and that all submitted information and documents provided by the supplier are correct in accordance with the technical requirements.
• The Authority determines the costs of using the license to use the card preferentially, so that the license to use the card is free of charge for the best product model at the level of environmental performance, and the cost escalates with a decrease in the level of environmental performance of the product concerned.
•  After the supplier meets the technical requirements for a license, the authority grants him a license to use the card.
• The period of validity of the license to use the card is renewable one year; provided that the supplier submits the license renewal application at least one month prior to its expiration date.

Conditions for affixing the Environmental Performance Efficiency Card

• After the supplier meets the technical requirements for the license, the authority grants him a license to use the card.
• The card must be installed on the licensed products only, and must be installed in a clear place in a way that is difficult to remove, according to the technical requirements specified in the requirements of the technical regulations and the relevant standard specifications.
• The card must be made of a material that ensures its survival on the product or its packaging, from the stage of manufacturing until reaching the consumer, unless it is deliberately removed or destroyed.
• The card must be in full conformity with the technical requirements of the design indicated in the technical regulations and standard specifications.
• The card must be fixed on every product in a clear place during its packing or packaging, as indicated in the technical regulations and standard specifications.
• The card must be fixed on the product/package in the manner specified by the authority in terms of type and grade, as indicated in the technical regulations and standard specifications.
• The card fixed on the product must be in full conformity with that approved by the Authority, and that it must be affixed in the specific manner stated in the technical regulations and standard specifications.
• The supplier is permitted to announce the license to use the card in his commercial transactions to prove that the products are licensed and subject to follow-up by the Authority.
• The license and the card should be used only for the licensed products only, and the supplier is prohibited from using the card in a misleading or wrong manner or in any other way that the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) and regulatory authorities consider misleading.
• Ensuring that the product packing and packaging materials bear the Environmental Performance Efficiency Card.
